  • The OMMIR Community Volunteer Advisory Board is tasked with identifying, and advising the office on, areas of concern and issues of collaborative efforts related to missing or murdered Indigenous relatives.

    All meetings of the Board will be virtual. Meetings are held quarterly.

  • Board Positions

  • The OMMIR Community Volunteer Advisory Board (CVAB) is comprised of the following members: 

    • Ten members representing:
      • An Indigenous-Led organization that provides advocacy or counseling for Indigenous victims of violence; 
      • An Indigenous-Led organization that provides legal services for Indigenous victims of violence;
      • An Indigenous-Led organization that provides health services to Indigenous victims of violence;
      • A community-based organization that provides services to an urban Indigenous community;
      • A community-based organization that provides services to a rural Indigenous community;
      • A community-based victim advocate organization serving Colorado's Indigenous population;
      • A national organization that provides education and awareness of missing and murdered Indigenous relatives;
      • Indigenous people who have been victims of violence, or are a family member of an Indigenous person who has been a victim of violence;

    • One member who represents the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, appointed by the Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Council.

    • One member who represents the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, appointed by the Southern Ute Tribal Council.
    • One member who represents the The Ute Indian Tribe Of The Uintah And Ouray Reservation, appointed by the Uintah and Ouray Tribal Council. 

    • Four members who are each an enrolled member of a tribe with historical ties to Colorado, as identified on the Colorado Tribal Contacts List developed by History Colorado in partnership with the Colorado Commission Of Indian Affairs.

    • Two members from any two of the following law enforcement categories:
      • Peace officer who works or resides on a Federally Recognized Indian Tribe's Reservation in Colorado;
      • Sheriff from a county with a population of fewer than one hundred thousand persons;
      • Sheriff from an urban county;
      • Representative of the Colorado State Patrol, with the approval of the Chief of the State Patrol;
      • Representative of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), with the approval of the CBI Director.

    • Two members who each represent one of the following agencies:
      • Attorney General's Office, appointed with the approval of the Attorney General;
      • Judicial Branch, appoitned with approval of the State Court Administrator;
      • Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs, Appointed with the approval of the Commission's Director
      • Certified death investigators, who must be certified by the State Coroners Association;
      • The Colorado Department Of Human Services (CHDS), appointed with the approval of the CDHS Director.

    Depending on its priorities for the year, the Board may establish task forces, subcommittees, or working groups to help accomplish its goals.

    Board members and community stakeholders who are subject matter experts on a particular issue volunteer their time to these groups and provide the Board with their recommendations and insights based on their expertise. Members of these groups are appointed by the Board Chair.
